Mrs. Roman's Classroom Page

Book packets are due on Friday, January 9. Please remind them of their books being due. They could be reading them over the holiday break. They are worth 45 points. Thank you.

Parents, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me or call me. Email is usually the best means of communication for me. I look forward to working with you and your child to help them succeed during the school year.

6th Grade: The students are continuing to listen to The Library Card by Jerry Spinelli. Every Friday, I read to the students a book, and they journal about the book. Ask your son or daughter about the book. We just finished reading a story on bullying. Ask your son/daughter about the story. Spelling words are given every Monday. On Mondays, they have spelling sentences for homework, unless we were off on a Monday, that homework is on a Tuesday. Tuesday nights, the students are expected to put the spelling words into ABC Order. The spelling tests are given on Thursdays. I try to keep it the same every week, so there's no confusion.

8th Grade: The students are continuing to listen to Scorpions by Walter Dean Myers on Fridays. They respond in a journal about the book, and we discuss it in class. Last week, we finished reading Island by Gordon Korman in class. Many of the students liked the book, but they didn't like the ending. If your son/daughter needs an idea for the second nine week reading project, they can always read book two of this series. We began working in the Code X textbooks this week in class. We are just beginning literary terms, and we will be reading some student written college entry essays.

Don't forget to work on the Study Island website. The students have used it in class, and it can be visited at home. The web address is The students user name is their student ID#and using the @ sign and wm. Example would be 12345@wm, and the password is their last name. The 6th grade classes are using this as a competition, and trying to see who can log on the most. It's a great way for the students to practice the skills they are learning in the classroom.

Check out the to help our classroom with supplies.

EXTRA CREDIT! I will give 10 extra credit points per nine weeks if your child brings in a box of Kleenex.
